MICHIGAN STATE FAIR
CHOIR

Let’s keep Michigan singing! The Michigan State Fair Choir is moving into its seventh year and we look forward to singing with old friends and meeting new ones. With that in mind, we would like to invite you to register to join with other vocalists from across the state in the seventh annual Michigan State Fair Choir.  This year we will be joining others from across the state who are celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of Motown! Motown, which has become a nickname for Detroit, where the label originated, was originally founded by Berry Gordy Jr. and achieved fantastic success in the 1960s, though it started as a small label. Numerous well-known artists developed with the label, from the Supremes, to the Jackson 5, to Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, Gladys Knight & the Pips and Martha and the Vandellas, just to name a few!

Seven years ago saw the rebirth of the Michigan State Fair when a number of private citizens and community groups decided that they wouldn’t let the Fair simply disappear from the state, banding together to recreate it without access to the support of state funding. Each year has shown a significant growth in attendance numbers, and we look forward to similar growth this year. The 2019 Fair will again be held Labor Day weekend at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan.

Many of the key points for you to consider when participating with the Michigan State Fair Choir are the same as in past years, with one notable exception; the Fair will be providing the sheet music to registered members, this year, so there is no need to purchase your own set of originals! As always, choir members understand that, as a volunteer activity, no reimbursement is provided for their time and talent. Choir members also…

  • Must be able to attend the State Fair on Labor Day weekend in Novi, Michigan (although not firmly set, we anticipate the performance to occur Sunday afternoon)

  • Agree to learn their part independently and/or by practice track (confirmed volunteers will be provided with access to the shared online folder needed to listen to practice segments) AND participate in at least two practice sessions (location, date and time TBD).  For participants on the opposite side of the state, if we are able to arrange for practices in your area, I will come to you for these practices.

  • Agree to participate with others of various ages and backgrounds from around the state who have made the same agreement.

  • Agree to allow us to record the performance.
